Airplay 30 Trimaran

Airplay 30 Sport in Australia… and Play We Did!

The 2015 Australian Multihull Nationals held in Victoria during Geelong Race Week brought together the fastest and finest of Australia’s big multihulls to face-off and see just who is king.  The fleet included both catamarans and trimarans sporting the latest in development including canting rigs and curved lifting foils.

Just Multihull’s launched their stock off-the-shelf Airplay 30 Sport trimaran just prior to the event.  With the exception of an incorrect weigh-in and rating, the Airplay 30 would have romped in 1st place but instead settled for a very well deserved runner up 2nd place.

The fleet was for sure taken off-guard by this wolf in sheep’s clothing.  The folding trailerable Airplay 30 presents as a family boat with huge interior space, a queen sized berth, nice kitchenette and private bathroom.  She has a standard rig, centre hull, single board and rudder yet goes upwind and downwind like a jet plane.

The secret is in the high volume and powerful hull and floats combined with a high aspect and generous sail plan on a beautiful carbon rotating rig.  We found that in any reasonable breeze the boat was safe, powerful and fast yet handled easily.

This was evidenced in the first race of the regatta when the Airplay, in 25-30 knots of breeze under full sail, powered across the line in 2nd place.  The result was quite surprising due to the more favoured and far more expensive super boats who in general were well reefed down.  Full results here

As owners we cannot wait to take our girl to the next event.  Offshore or inshore she is fun, fun, fun!
